Aristocracy 2
"I love this piece and how it reflects the beautiful dance of man-made machine and Mother Nature. I'm not a particularly religious person, but there is nothing that makes me feel closer to the divine than flying. That feeling of the plane lifting off the runway and the wheels retreating into the underbelly; it's as though, if only briefly, we get to have wings."
Meagan Morrison, a fashion illustrator (check out more about her in Fashion tab of this website) with the Instagram handle @travelwritedraw, recently posted the above photograph of David LaChapelle's Aristocracy 2 with the accompanying blurb.
Morrison's words capture the essence of what I feel when I look at the colorful swirling clouds. This photograph communicates the beauty of flight- it is the beginning of a new journey towards exciting opportunities and a bright new future. In the air, you are in between two points floating in limbo...but when that plane touches down, life begins again with the pulsing vibrancy of being alive. There is so much to do and see in the world, and so many possible directions and paths to go down. Who knows what can happen?
Below are two other photographs from David LaChapelle's Aristocracy series. He is a famous photographer who began his career in the 1980s with Andy Warhol. LaChapelle (http://davidlachapelle.com/) is "known internationally for his exceptional talent in combining a unique hyper-realistic aesthetic with profound social messages".

Aristocracy 1 Aristocracy 3
I see beauty, magic, and happiness when I look at Aristocracy 2. The orange at the bottom imbues the photograph with a warm glow, while the blue and pink clouds look like cotton candy. However, Aristocracy 1 and Aristocracy 3 are composed of less vibrant colors that look more like an explosion. To me, these two photographs illustrate that one point when happiness and terror clash, and the planes are falling, falling, falling...
What do you see when you look at Aristocracy 1, 2, 3?
